Worstead 5 mile Road Run
The Worstead 5 will be going ahead as usual. A few hundred runners come to the village every year to take part, some serious athletes and some just for fun. Run it or walk it, it’s up to you but there’s the chance to raise money for the Big C however you do it. - check www.nnbr.co.uk for details nearer the time. You can enter online.
Kids Field sponsored by Wroxham Barns
It’s always nice to have something to occupy the younger festival goers, so we’ve organised some fun crafts just for them (and mums and dads if they’d like to join in). Woodland favourites Bewilderwood will be coming along to get children involved in some cool story-telling. Sticky Earth Cafe from Cromer will have their own tent helping the kids create their own decorated things and there’s space just to have a run about and burn off some energy!
Main Stage
Music is the main attraction here – lots of local bands who have been supporting the Worstead Festival for years and some newcomers. But there’s also a bit of theatre and some poetry reading. Roger Lloyd Pack will be performing some original and classic works. All in the tent in the New Inn gardens.
The Church
The historic St Mary’s Church will be open 10am to 4pm and will be playing host to demonstrations of weaving, the trade the village was built on. Members of the local weavers guild will be showing visitors how wool was spun and woven when the village was well known for the material it produced. The Choir Worstead, a community group of singers set up 18 months ago, will be performing a couple of concerts of a diverse range of tunes at 7pm on Saturday. The Church will also host a Flower Festival.
The Village Hall
If it’s a quiet moment you’re after, the hall is the perfect place for afternoon cream teas all accompanied by a few jazz sounds from Hogwash Junction. A couple of foody and craft stalls will be adding to the interest as well as other specialist traders.
Stalls
We’ve picked a range of craftsmen and women and traders to give visitors a taste of some of the best stuff on offer from local people. There’ll be some cool crafts, gorgeous interiors items, jewellery and plants. You’re guaranteed to want to buy something. A list of the stallholders appearing at the festival is now online here.
Food & Drink
There’s a bar, obviously (it is a pub after all) and food. We’ve got the usual burgers and hot dogs on offer, plus a salad bar if that’s your thing, doughnuts & crepes. Homemade cream teas in the hall, top quality coffee, traditional hand pressed lemonade and it’s summer so an ice cream van is obligatory.
Around the site
There’ll be lots of little bits of theatre, some fun science for the children and other story tellers and games.
